“Volcano” is the visual narrative of the alchemic metamorphosis through the cathartic baptism of fire. Being threatened by the permanent danger of slipping, this evolution to a superior plan of existence is visually suggested by the upward spiral of stairs, and symbolically expressed through the juxtaposition of two successive states of the same being: the caterpillar and the butterfly. The personal and collective history of existence, represented by the antique pot, serves as foundation for the individual initiatory journey. This basis is enhanced by the presence of the sugar cube, as symbol of transformation motivation in HNK’s artworks. ALEXNDRU RĂDULESCU, 2016
