"Memento mori"

Oil on canvas
(35 x 50 cm)

“Memento mori” introduces a new concept of ephemeral in HNK’s visual universe. The composition reiterates an ascending architecture, built on the recurring nucleus of a symbolic element for the artist and suggestive for the onlooker, a nucleus sheltered by the glass cupola. The central element in this ensemble of symbols is the key, as a metaphor of sense and access to forbidden spaces. The accessible-forbidden dialectics is suggested by the glass transparency, which defines a space that can be seen, but can’t be touched. The presence of caterpillar and butterfly in opposing registers – superior and inferior – represents the metamorphosis and initiatory path. STEFANIA DUMBRAVA, 2016
